Framed In Grain Vol. 2 pairs a single pot still whiskey from Great Northern Distillery with Joseph Gervin’s artwork, “Nothing To Say Here”. Reproduced on the label and presentation box, its textured surfaces and vivid red diagonal give this second volume a distinctive visual identity.
The whiskey is equally expressive, combining fresh apple and poached pear with honey, clove and cracked black pepper. A Calvados cask finish develops its orchard-fruit character, while natural cask strength gives it intensity and grip – a bold choice for drinkers who enjoy fruit alongside assertive pot still spice.
Tasting notes:
Nose: Vivid and expressive. Fresh green apple, baked apple skin, and poached pear immediately lead, driven by the Calvados cask influence. Behind this sits honey, citrus peel, and a subtle floral lift, with a sharper, slightly mineral edge adding definition.
Palate: Powerful and structured. A surge of orchard fruit meets spiced honey, clove, and cracked black pepper. The higher ABV brings intensity and grip, while a faint bittersweet note (apple skin, light oak char) adds tension and complexity.
Finish: Long and assertive. Drying oak, warming spice, and persistent apple notes linger, with a final return of sweetness (honeyed and slightly waxy) on the tail.
