Teeling Crystal Single Malt takes its name from crystal malted barley, a grain more commonly associated with brewing. Kilned at higher temperatures, it brings a distinctive toffee and caramel character to this Dublin-distilled Irish whiskey.
The recipe combines crystal malt with distillers malt, using both distillers yeast and white wine yeast before triple distillation. The resulting whiskey balances apple and pear with pastry-like richness, honey and gentle spice.
Matured in virgin American oak, this limited release suits drinkers who enjoy orchard fruit and dessert-like flavours, while offering an exploration of how the choice of malt can shape a single malt whiskey.
Tasting notes:
Nose: Green apple, stewed pears, with hints of brown sugar, vanilla and light oak shavings.
Palate: A burst of toffee coats the palate with apple pie spice and fresh pastries, followed by a honeyed sweetness.
Finish: Long luxurious finish with notes of soft cinnamon spice and caramel.
