The Explorers Edition embodies the Teeling Whiskey philosophy, and celebrates the brave, intrepid Irish explorers who travelled the world to make their mark.
Each release will embrace the character and the personality of a nation by using unique casks or spirit types, which capture their unique identity. For the Japanese edition, Teeling are using casks that were previously used to mature Japanese Mugi Shochu, which imparts passionfruit and lychee notes to the liquid.
Initially matured in ex-Bourbon barrels, and then finished for four years in ex-Japanese spirit casks, the Explorers Series - Mugi Shochu challenges the conventions of what Irish whiskey can be.
Bottled at 46% ABV.
Tasting notes:
Nose: Candied apples, lychee, jasmine tea, with vanilla sweetness and a touch of spice.
Palate: Bursting tropical fruit, poached pears, gingerbread and golden syrup.
Finish: Sweet mellow finish with soft wood tannins, dried fruit and a refreshing aftertaste.
