Quercus Robur is a departure away from traditional ‘spirit’ casks.
Robur is most often used for ‘European Oak’ sherry casks. The wood itself is more porous than either of the Patraea or Alba species, and much less sweet.
The trees grow throughout Europe, but Croithlí Distillery source theirs from the highly prized region of Slavonia in Croatia – Lužnjak casks.
Bottled at 46% ABV.
Tasting notes:
Nose: Deep redcurrant fruitiness with rich winter spices, ginger, clove and nutmeg
Palate: Rich fruit and spice
Finish: A robust, dry finish with wood smoke and dark chocolate
