Four decades ago, Barry Crockett drew upon his lifelong fascination with the whiskey-making process, observing his father, a Master Distiller, refine his skills, to create Midleton Very Rare. Throughout its history, three Master Distillers have contributed their expertise, passion, and dedication, culminating in the pinnacle of Irish whiskey. To mark Midleton's 40th anniversary, they unveil a truly exceptional and opulent whiskey that narrates the Midleton Very Rare journey with each sip—the Midleton Very Rare 40th Anniversary Ruby Edition.

The ruby, often hailed as the 'gem of gems,' symbolises the 40th anniversary. For the Midleton Very Rare team, it represents the essence of their journey thus far—a narrative characterised by fervent passion, unwavering commitment to honouring and elevating the global appreciation for Irish whiskey, and safeguarding the rich history of Midleton Distillery. Over the past four decades, they have commemorated significant achievements and introduced rare Irish whiskeys crafted for moments of indulgence or preservation. This release epitomises that ethos.

Enhanced by a port cask finish, this whiskey embodies decades of refined expertise, profound experience, unwavering dedication, and exceptional skill. There has never been an Irish whiskey quite like this, nor will there ever be again.

Tasting notes:
Nose: Opens with a rich and beautiful burst of berry fruits as notes of blackcurrant, raspberry, and plum come to the fore. A delicate perfume, with aromatic spices and an earthy woodland character is complemented by orchard fruits and citrus peel, while the seasoned oak imparts sweet vanilla, cinnamon, and fragrant honeycomb. The elegance of the grain whiskey quietly emerges to reveal soft and nuanced floral undertones.

Palate: At first succulent fruits are met with pot still spices, imparting notes of freshly grated ginger and clove oil. The oak’s soft tannins combine with a nutty character. Notes of flaked almonds and nutmeg are wonderfully balanced by the seasoned port cask’s contribution of ripe berry fruits, cassis, and dark chocolate.

Finish: Luxuriously long and satisfying. The seasoned oak, fruits and spice continue to linger, eventually yielding only to time.
