Old Comber Pot Still & Grain is a rich, rounded Irish whiskey that brings together creamy pot still character and grain whiskey sweetness. Port and sherry cask finishes give it a generous fruit-led style, with orchard fruit, red berries and soft baking spice.
Part of Echlinville’s modern revival of Old Comber, this expression offers a distinctive combination of dessert-like flavours and a full, lingering texture. Vanilla cream, fruit cake and toasted nuts add depth without overwhelming the whiskey’s softer side.
It suits drinkers who enjoy fruit-rich Irish blends with a substantial mouthfeel, whether served neat or explored gradually with a little water.
Tasting notes:
Nose: Soft orchard fruits, red apples, overripe pears and red apple skins leads to baked plum pudding, vanilla cream anglaise, and a hint of warming nutmeg.
Palate: Red berry and madeira cake trifle laced with sherry and vanilla pods, warming up to baked plums in red wine and cinnamon sticks. Red toffee apple and underlying sweetness from the port casks. Soft wood, toasted almonds and mild winter spices.
Finish: Long, lingering, viscous and satisfying. Cream soda from the Echlinville Pot Still transforms into iced raspberry and cherry Bakewell tart, before fading gradually to a final gentle hint of warm spiced ginger cake and vanilla cream.
