On its 40th anniversary since inception in 1984, guided by the expert hand of Master Distiller Emeritus Barry Crockett, Midleton Very Rare proudly continues its legacy with the eagerly awaited release of its 2024 vintage, now the fourth instalment curated by Master Distiller Kevin O’Gorman.
The 2024 edition of Midleton Very Rare Vintage stays true to its acclaimed profile, featuring a subtle infusion of ripe orchard and stone fruit notes. Meticulously balanced, this latest vintage harmonises pot still whiskeys with grain whiskeys, resulting in a delightful interplay of floral, herbal, and vanilla scents. Presented in an opulent, eco-friendly gift box, this distinctive bottling coincides with the brand's ruby anniversary.
The saga of Midleton Very Rare began over four decades ago, driven by the vision of the distillery’s then Master Distiller to craft exceptional expressions. Successive Masters continued the tradition, reserving select quantities of exceptionally crafted whiskey for future generations to enjoy. Today, Midleton Very Rare celebrates 40 years since the debut of its inaugural vintage whiskey.
Tasting notes:
Nose: Richly scented vanilla with delightful floral and herbal notes to the fore, while aromas of orchard fruits gently build over time, adding ripe apple and sweet pear. The pot still spices, complemented by the nuanced American oak, add warming notes of cinnamon, clove and freshly mown hay that mingle with the delectable notes of toffee and heather honey.
Palate: Silky smooth and luscious at first with mouth-watering tropical fruit notes of peach and nectarine, combining effortlessly with the decadent tastes of crème brûlée, toffee-apple and chocolate dipped honeycomb. The delicate floral grain qualities and full-bodied pot still spices combine seamlessly with the charred oak influences, showcasing a wonderfully balanced yet complex and elegant whiskey.
Finish: Lasting finish which sees the fruits and American oak continue to softly linger until the very end.
