Clan Original is a distinctive Danish aromatic pipe tobacco built around an unusually complex mixture of 14 different tobaccos. Among the documented components are Virginia, Burley, Kentucky, Maryland, Oriental/Turkish and Perique, together with Cavendish and Black Cavendish.
Despite that elaborate recipe, Clan is relatively mild in strength. Natural tobacco sweetness, nuttiness, earthiness and spice mingle with softer Cavendish character and a restrained aromatic treatment, including a liquor-like note. The result is a multifaceted blend in which different elements emerge throughout the bowl rather than being dominated by a single flavour.
Formerly marketed as Clan Aromatic, the blend is now sold as Clan Original in a number of markets and is produced in Denmark by Scandinavian Tobacco Group.
