Oliva Serie V
Serie V is a complex blend of Nicaraguan long-filler tobaccos. Blended with specially fermented Jalapa Valley ligero, and finished with a high priming Habano sun-grown wrapper.
This cigar is blended to deliver full-bodied taste while maintaining an unparalleled smoothness. This flavourful blend exhibits complex tobacco with rich coffee and dark chocolate tones. A subtle and well-balanced spice is present throughout.
Oliva Serie V Melanio
The Melanio Gran Reserva, like Serie V, is full flavoured yet smooth. The long-filler tobaccos are a blend of Oliva Nicaraguan Habano that emphasises tobacco from the Jalapa region, an area known for a more nuanced leaf than the Esteli or Condega regions. This carefully aged Jalapa blend produces a particularly flavourful smoke. The wrapper is a proprietary seed grown by Oliva in Ecuador.
The Melanio is a tremendously smooth cigar, made up of only the finest premium aged tobaccos that overflow with flavour.
Nub is a sub-brand of Oliva, considered one of the most innovative cigar concepts. It's a line of short, stout and well-filled smokes blended to capture the perfect essence of a cigar.
Made completely by hand with densely packed long filler, allowing each stick to burn slowly, while maintaining a smoking time comparable to conventional sizes.
Oliva – Brand History
The history of Oliva dates back to 1886 in Pinar del Rio, Cuba where Melanio Oliva grew tobacco. From the very beginning, the Oliva patriarch believed that superior-quality tobacco was paramount. However, it was not an easy road for the Oliva family.
In the late 1950's, grandson Gilberto Oliva was forced to leave his homeland of Cuba, but was fortunate to find a country where the soil was similar: Nicaragua. As fate would have it, decades later, he would again be forced to leave his plantation to start over. The Oliva family spirit would not be broken, as Gilberto searched for the finest tobacco in the fields of The Philippines, Mexico and Panama, eventually settling again in Nicaragua. History has proven this to be the wisest choice as the Oliva farms still flourish there to this very day.
The Oliva story does not end there. The fourth generation – some born and raised in the U.S.A. – had the desire to take the fine family tobacco and turn it into fine handmade cigars. It was that desire which gave birth to the OLIVA Cigar Company, starting modestly in the 1990's during the "Cigar Boom". While the Oliva family produced a stellar product, these were strange times in the American premium cigar market. A glut of inferior products flooded the market, collapsing it from right under the Oliva Company and the "Boom" was over as quickly as it had appeared.
Despite difficult times, once more the Oliva family never lost hope and with the last bale of tobacco they received from their father Gilberto, they pushed on. Little by little, the collective family talents for growing first-rate tobacco and making impeccable cigars were rewarded as the Oliva brands gained recognition. With the leadership and business instincts of the youngest brother Jose, and his sisters support, the pinnacle of the Oliva Cigar Company was achieved in 2014 when Cigar Aficionado Magazine awarded the Serie V Melanio Figaurado Cigar of the Year with a 96 Rating.
What Melanio Oliva could not have known was that half-way across the world, in a small Belgian town, a kindred spirit was traveling a similar course. The Vandermarliere family, creators of the J. Cortes Cigar Company, shared the same passion for cigars, tradition and family. Both families believed in the future of tobacco and the importance of quality products.
The present generation has inherited those values and it's the very foundation of their global strategy. It was this common set of values, and a bit of fate, that set the wheels in motion that culminated in the marriage of these two great cigar families in 2016.
From that moment on two great-grandsons Fred and Jose sit at the helm of these two family dynasties, now united. To the benefit of the cigar enthusiast, the traditions of the past are preserved and they support each other from both sides of the Atlantic. This is a union of two families, from two continents with a history and philosophy that is indistinguishable and interchangeable. Together, they continue to write new pages in the illustrious and rich history that is the Oliva and Vandermarliere families.
