The Hoyo de Monterrey brand was born in 1865, when Jose Gener registered the name as a line of his existing cigar company, La Escepcion. Since then, the company has changed ownership more than once, but it really became popular worldwide a century later, after the Cuban revolution, when the Le Hoyo Series was introduced. Hoyo and Fox go way back, though it's marginally more well-established, having been founded some 16 years before Fox's. But the two companies grew up together, and there are several examples of Hoyo products through the years made in collaboration with Fox's, including a cigar made especially for the Dublin Horse Show.
Hoyo is now one of the top 5 Habanos brands, and is the mildest of these top tier brands. Their cigars are famous for their rich and silky flavours, with the cabinet selections being the most popular in the brand.
